The Purpose
This website has been created to fulfill an assignment for an Advanced Placement U.S. History Course by examining the civil-war film Gettysburg (released in 1993 by Turner Pictures). It should provide a critique of the movie's historical accuracy in terms of plot, characterization, and setting (props, wardrobe, scenes). The general consensus in these areas, among many sources (see the Works Cited), is that Gettysburg is very historically accurate, however there is controversy over how enthralled viewers when the credits emerged after 4.5 hours. For my instructor's convenience while grading: information on clothing, landscape, and props can be found in the Setting tab; information on historical characters, resemblance of actors, and characters' relationship can be found in the Characterization tab; the historical accuracy of scenes can be found in the Plot tab; citations can be found throughout the site but a compiled list of these sources can be found in the Works Cited tab.
